When most other industries seem to be downsizing at the present Marine Electrics NZ Limited is experiencing a big growth phase, says director Natalie Dakers. She puts the growth down to her husband Gavin’s unique expertise and skill in the marine industry. Marine Electrics NZ Limited are specialists in marine electrical services Auckland wide and suppliers of marine electrical and electronic equipment. Gavin completed his specialised marine electrical apprenticeship with the New Zealand Navy and the company was launched by the Dakers in 1990 after Gavin observed a shortage of electricians in the industry that were qualified to a marine electrical standard.

Gavin Dakers has gone on to complete many other Trade Certificates, including a diploma in business management placing him in a prime position to give sound advice to customers and pass on his knowledge to staff. As a result Marine Electrics NZ is now regarded as industry leaders and its skills are highly sort after, says Dakers. The company operates a mobile team that travels to work on boats on site completing a wide variety of electrical work including new installations of latest technology plus repairs and maintenance. Increasingly demand is taking the company further afield to include special projects throughout the North Island

Marine Electrics NZ Limited is a member of the New Zealand Marine Industry Association, which represents New Zealand’s leading marine service companies. Dakers says members operate under a code of ethics to protect the interests of the boating public of New Zealand giving customers peace of mind.

Dakers, who takes care of the company’s administration, says Gavin’s technical skill combined with his strong management ability has proven to be an extremely successful combination. She says exceptional level of service and impeccable workmanship with fine attention to detail is the keys to the company’s success. This is also the reason why customers such as Orams Marine, Westhaven Marina and Peir 21 feel confident referring their clients to Marine Electrics NZ Ltd. Dakers says the company is currently looking to hire additional staff to keep up with demand including a manager, which will allow the Dakers more time to focus on growing the business.
